In june Valle theatre in Rome, in September the Marinoni theatre in Venice and now Coppola theatre in Catania as well is occupied. ” We reclaim the right and a duty to take up and care for a common good in order to return it to the history of its city”.
That means to reopen the closed building site of the century old Coppola theatre, rebuilt after american bombings. In 2005 a new project was approved but the works never started.
That’s why on 17th december sicilian stage workers decided to rebuild it. Rejecting any connection with political parties or associations, the occupants are members of different cultural associations: l’Arsenale (Sicilian federation for Arts and Music), G.A.R (Group of Awakening Action),Machine Works Collective, Valle Theatre, Iqbal Masih Librino Center(Self-organized space for Social Meeting), Rigenera, Fabbrica Teatro (Theatre Factory). They are still looking for fornitures, pipes and lamps but they already planned concerts and plays.
